What You Need To Know About Rebates
About the Cheaper Home Battery Program
The Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Battery Program presents a valuable opportunity for homeowners and installers as it makes reliable, affordable energy more accessible to Australians across the country.
From 1 May 2026, the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Battery Program will move to a tiered rebate structure under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Rebates are issued to installers through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) via Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).
Incentives will now vary by battery capacity, with 100% of the STC factor available for systems up to 14 kWh, 60% for 14–28 kWh and 15% for 28–50 kWh. The rebate value is calculated based on the battery’s usable capacity and the STC factor will now step down every six months, gradually reducing the upfront discount over time.
- PowerPlus Energy will seek to update this page as new information emerges, in the meantime find more information from the Government Cheaper Home Batteries website page and the Clean Energy Regulator that is administering the program.

Ensuring Safety, Quality & Performance Compliance
Understanding The Battery Rebate
We understand that changing requirements can be complex and, at times, challenging to navigate. PowerPlus Energy is here to help make the process clearer and support you at every stage.
What Does “Clean Energy Council Listed” Mean? Certified for Safety, Quality and Performance Standards:
- Batteries with Clean Energy Council listing have been approved under the Council’s Battery Assurance Program, meaning they meet Australia’s highest standards for lithium-based battery systems.
- Each product is independently tested for safety, quality and performance, giving installers and end users confidence that they’re choosing a compliant, reliable and high-performing solution.

What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
A 5 year, $2.3 billion initiative to make home battery systems more affordable for homeowners launched by the Australian Government
How Much Can You Save?
The program can reduce the upfront cost of installing a small – scale battery system by up to 30%
Who is Eligible?
The program is available to all Australian households and small businesses, including those with existing solar systems.
Why Use a Home Battery?
Home batteries help store excess energy from either solar panels or the grid for later use. This can reduce your reliance on the grid, lower electricity bills (especially during peak demand periods when charges are higher) and enhance your energy security during outages.
How big can my system be?
Your battery system can be as big as you need it to be, however you can only claim up to 50kWh in capacity as part of the program. Eligibility is based on technical requirements and regulations so make sure you speak to your local installer first about your power needs.
How is the Program Delivered?
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program will be delivered through an expansion of the Small – scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). This is something you won’t have to worry about as your installer will take care of it for you!
