The PowerPlus Energy Journey
About
Powering Australia
Australian Energy Innovations Since 2017
The story of PowerPlus Energy began with a simple idea; energy storage systems should be easy to use, reliable and built for the realities of the Australian environment. From humble beginnings, we focused on designing tough, dependable solutions shaped by the landscapes and communities that rely on them.
As we’ve grown, the values that founded the company; honesty, reliability, and resilience, continue to guide everything we build. The environment that shaped our beginnings has stayed with us, influencing our brand and the way we conduct business. Every milestone and achievement is not only shared by our team but every installer, energy user, and partner connected to PowerPlus Energy who believes real progress is built on collaboration and trust.
Let’s build on this momentum together and continue shaping our energy landscape with Australian solutions that strengthen our energy resilience.
2017
Humble beginnings, real impact
Long before batteries became a trend, our founders were out in regional Australia beginning to understand power is more than a convenience, it’s a lifeline. PowerPlus Energy was founded in 2017 over an IKEA hotdog with a focus on developing reliable energy storage solutions built for Australian conditions. Starting from a small operation, all fitting within a Kennards 9m² storage unit in Melbourne, we focused on designing practical battery systems for off-grid, regional, and remote applications. Our first battery, Eco4840P, is an Australian-made lithium battery designed as a replacement for traditional lead-acid systems. This product laid the foundation for our modular battery platform.
2018 - 2019
Scaling Production and Capabilities
As demand grew, so did we. Twice. From a modest 450m² workspace in Bayswater where our home-grown engineering and manufacturing team expanded, helping evolve the products that now define us. By 2019, our growth led us into a 1,500m² facility, giving us the capacity to scale production while keeping our core values at the forefront; excellence, innovation, responsibility and community.
2020-2021
Resilience, growth and working together
Resilience, growth and working together
Between 2020 and 2021, PowerPlus Energy navigated global supply challenges and community impacts while continuing to expand locally to a new 3,000m² facility. The team adapted to global microchip shortages, shipping delays, and the broader impacts of COVID-19 on communities. Although it was a tough period on many, we discovered greater collaboration with partners and customers to maintain supply and support regional communities in need.
2022
Innovation driving commercial evolution
In 2022, moving to a 9,000m² Factory in Melbourne, showed us what’s possible when a company stays ambitious. But, 2022 had bigger plans as PowerPlus Energy joined the growing demand for C&I solutions through the design and release of the Escape20 Series. The only one like it in the market the Escape20 offers an integrated, true UPS, scalable platform for commercial applications. This evolution led to the PowerPlus Energy team’s largest project to date; RUMI on Louth. The 2MW battery utilises the Escape20 architecture, with PowerPlus Energy’s technical leadership the eco-resort island is entirely off-grid.
